"Looking back on nursery rhymes, some were so cheerful and simple. I see the idyllic scenes and lilting rhythms carrying us into pastures, gardens, cozy homes and meadows. No sorrow, no fear…well, maybe a little scary for Miss Muffet when the spider came along or the mitten-less kittens saddened by their loss of pie, but generally a quiet, carefree meander through soft colors and playful antics.
Exploring this homogenized world and presenting perhaps a more complex existence in which there is a dissident voice, confusion, neglect, hard hearts, danger and the loss of innocence guided me in creating these four panels."
