Oil on reclaimed canvas, 36"x36", inspired by the Sunflower chapter.
Statement:According to Greek mythology, the water nymph Clyte, after being scorned, was doomed to watch the sun god Helios as a sunflower. This piece imagines a modern update to this sad tale - the old gods have faded and fallen to earth. One day Helios gazes on a lovely sunflower and remembers who he was and the nymph who once loved him and has watched for him over thousands of years. In recognition, she is released. After all these ages, do you think she would she still love him, would she forgive? Or perhaps after Clyte has waited for love across the ages, she is just ready to move on, and direct her energy in new pursuits.
