Cancer is our cardinal water sign, ruled by the moon and represented by the constellation, cancer. Most often, their depiction is that of the crab (cancer is "crab" in latin). The summer solstice starts the beginning of cancer season. As our third cardinal sign, cancers are initiators, with drive and ambition. Ruled by the moon, they also represent self-care, comfort, and maternal energies. Unsurprisingly, they have a reputation for being a bit on the crabby side and some astrological slander would call them cry-babies. Cancers can be sensitive and emotional, but tender and nurturing under that hard shell. They could be interpreted to have "mama bear" energy. (Chunky Trevor)
